Nolan Alan | Columbus Newborn Photography

here it is.. the much anticipated, long awaited blog post of little baby Nolan’s newborn photos (to see Nolan’s arrival, click here). Nolan was unlike any other newborn i’ve ever photographed in the fact that he hardly slept. Like, ever. He would take these short little 15 minute cat naps and then be wide away for hours. All of my tricks failed on him. Luckily i was staying with my sister and brother in law for a week and just kept everything set up so that i could grab him when he did fall asleep and try to snap a few photos. So his newborn session spanned 3 days, my longest ever. In these photos, baby boy is 4, 5 and 6 days old.

oh those teeny tiny baby feet!!the nursery my sis and bro in law worked so hard on is absolutely perfect! so bright and cheery!i mean, how gorgeous is my sister? seriously.

mandy, nick, jackson and nolan, i love you all so so so so much. can’t wait to come spend new years eve with you and continue to see who nolan will become. xxJBZ

what ‘must haves’ should expecting moms make sure to have in their hospital bag? a robe, slippers, yoga pants, phone charger & nursing tanks!

most helpful baby product or shower gift as a brand new mom: we love our bouncer that we received! Nolan loves sitting in that! The miracle blanket swaddled (miracle product), the sleep sheep sound machine!
best piece of advice given to you: snuggle your baby as much as possible, they are only this small for a short amount of time.. housework can wait..
best piece of mommy/daddy advice to others: it won’t be like this for long.. the sleepless nights will eventually end and you will make it through. cherish these early moments, they go very fast!

Nolan Alan makes his debut | columbus birth photography

As we’ve gotten closer and closer to December, i’ve been getting more and more anxious/nervous/excited. My sister was due with my niece/nephew on december 12th, and it being her first baby, we all knew it could happen at any time. every time my phone rang or beeped that a text came in, i had to check immediately. I had an hour and a half drive from my house to the hospital and i’ll be damned if i wasnt gonna make it! i was trepidatious to make any plans for fear of getting the call when i wasnt anywhere near home. Mandy’s last dr appt was on thursday the 12th and it was decided if nothing happened soon, she would be induced the following thursday. That eased my worries a bit, nice to know an actual date. I planned on coming down to their house on tuesday so spend a little time with my sissy before she became a mom. Saturday morning i get a text, ‘Ok. Dont freak out. But last night my contractions got pretty intense. They died down..this morning…so just be on standby”. i grilled her about how consistent they were and what she thought i should do. i for sure didnt wanna miss anything and really wanted to try to get to their house instead of meeting them at the hospital. She assured me they werent consistent at all. I had asked my friend Mel over at Beautiful Beginnings what her standard operating procedure was and passed that on to mandy and told her to let me know as soon as things got more consistent. JJ and i took our dogs to go see santa, got some lunch and went home. i finished packing up everything that needed to be packed and loaded up the car. My girlfriend Faye told me i should probably head down to mandy soon too. Eventually at around 330, i just decided to go. I hugged and kissed my little family good bye and headed down to be with my sister. Her contractions were all over the place and getting stronger. we tried to hang out and watch a movie and relax but that wasnt really happening. Not to mention Nick decided to paint one of the walls of their new house. you could tell he was totally nervous.

mandy wanted one more bump picture in case she went into labor overnight. And little Jackson always loved to be in her bump photos.

last photo of me and my sissy before she became a mommy
Eventually around 1230a we all decided to go up and try to get some sleep. I decided to try to read a few chapters of my book which in hindsight wasnt the best idea. I could hear mandy having contractions and walking around. I finally put my book down around 115 or so and 15 minutes later i heard Nick running down stairs, coming back up and on the phone w the doctor. She told him to bring mandy in. I threw off my blanket and threw on some clothes. Mandy was in a good amount of pain now so we rushed to grab all the bags and get in the car. We called my mom and told her to be on standby.

we get to the hospital and stayed in Triage for about an hour, then they put her into a room. from there the morning dragged on a lot.. a lot of contractions and waiting. at around 1245pm it was time to start pushing. And at 1:26pm, after 40 long weeks, we finally found out ITS A BOY! (much to my frustration, they decided not to find out what they were having). But he’s beautiful and perfect. what an emotional day!! we all knew nick would be emotional, since we all know how he cried at their wedding! but he wasnt the only one, i was a bucket of tears behind my camera and i know my mom had tears too! how could you not? what mandy did was AMAZING!my sister did SO great! better than i think i could ever do! that was crazy and intense. she was a rockstar! i’ve never been more proud of her. baby boy weighed in at 7lbs 9oz and 22 inches long. when they first measured his length they said he was shorter and my mom was like, no way, he’s gotta be longer than that. they measured him two more times, yep, 22in. he’s gonna be tall and skinny like his mommy and daddy.how perfect is he?? i love him!SO proud of my sissy.. so crazy she’s a mom. little rae rae couldnt take her eyes off of baby Nolan, she was so curious.Nolan is my mama’s 6th grandbaby!i finally got my chance to hold the little nugget!i LOVE being an auntie!first official family photo!

now everyone is home and doing well, adjusting to life with a newborn. i’m loving every minute of being here with them, soaking up as much as i can before i head home. we’ll be doing his newborn photos while i’m here so stay tuned for those!

rob&carrie&macho max | columbus family photography

Meet the adorable Hauck family, its their debut here on the blog. I had so much fun with this little family, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much when i got in the car to drive home. i adore the fact that they call their little guy Macho Max, i mean, come on, how cute is that? he even has his own instagram hashtag! i was so happy with the fall color we had all over the park for their session too. Fall in Ohio can be so pretty! These guys were total troopers, going along with all my silly games and idea. but really, like carrie said, Max just stole the show..

look at that sweet smile, doesn’t it just make you smile? this is totally my favorite. i love dads little smile, love mom’s big laugh.. i just love love love it.

carrie and rob, thank you for allowing me to capture your beautiful family and this special time in sweet Max’s life. i had so much fun with you all and hope i get to work with you all again! xxJBZ

carrie&rob | together since 04.2009 | married 2 years | 04.16.2011 | Columbus, OH | home now: Powell, OH

how they met, as told by carrie: we both worked at the Columbus Zoo and were at a going away party for another co-worker.  we talked most of the night and rob bought me several blue moons.

he “friended” me on facebook the very same night and many texts and phone calls later, we had our first date at Cap City Diner.  We’ve been going strong ever since!

carrie | hometown: Dayton, OH | preschool teacher at the Columbus Zoo| 5 words (as described by rob): beautiful, intelligent, fun, crafty, thoughtful

rob | hometown: Lake Oswego, OR | courier for Columbus Zoo | 5 words (as described by carrie):  laid back, loyal, caring, handsome, so very patient

Max | 6 months | 05.09.2013 | 5 words: smiley, curious, talkative, cute, active

a favorite memory/moment from Max’s life so far:

rob’s favorite moment: The first time we gave Max food – he spit it right back out. He had this look on his face like, what is this and could you please get it off my tongue?
We had no clue what we were doing…but we kept at it and now he is a champion eater!
carrie’s favorite moment: When my maternity leave came to an end and I had to take him to daycare for the first time – I was paranoid that he would forget me.
I walked through the door after work (rob picks up) and his face lit up with the biggest smile and I knew for sure he recognized me!

best piece of mommy/daddy advice:

when they say it “takes a village” to raise a child – they aren’t lying!  Get yourself a good village.

Those people will lift you up when you are struggling, give advice when asked for, and generally support you in ways you didn’t even know you needed.

Katie D. - that fourth image and your fav are my favs!!!!! GORGEOUS FUN session!!!!! I LOVE THEM ALL! Carrie’s smile is absolutely killer and her style is on point! I love everything about this! Well done, friend!

megan&drew&leo | columbus family photography

this team is no stranger to this blog. you guys remember the dansers.. and then added little leo .. well little leo got a little bigger, and actually looks totally different to me. i was so excited for their family photos because leo is at that perfect age.. sitting up by himself and full of giggles and smiles, and not yet crawling so i didnt have to chase him!  also, when i posted their sneak peek so many people commented on megans hair, which is funny because i was totally going to talk about it here. megan has the perfect hair. its always perfect. ALWAYS. she literally has the best hair of all my girlfriends.. and thats saying a lot, my girls have good hair. but whenever i’m around megan, i have serious, SERIOUS hair envy. big time. but i digress.. here’s the danser family!

oh leo, you stinker, i heart you. (and can we talk about meg’s shoes?!)he always has so many smiles for his mommy.. that face that meg’s making.. that scrunched up nose smile.. its one of my favorite faces of hers. this is the epitome of the danser family. one of the cutest little families i have the privilege of knowing.seriously, how cute is he?this is quite possibly one of my favorite images, ever. seriously, this kid.. leo is just the best baby, always so happy and always smiling. while i was editing these images, JJ came into my office and this photo of leo was on my screen.. i told him that if we ever have a baby, and end up having  a boy (its no secret that i want a girl), i want to order one just like this. please and thank you.meg and drew.. you guys.. i adore you. thanks for trusting me to capture your family again. meg, you know a ton of photographers so its an honor, really. xxJBZ

megan&drew | together since 09.2008 | married 2 years | 06.24.2011 | Grand Haven, MI | home now: Columbus, OH

how they met, as told by meg: our parents grew up together and we grew up knowing each other. But I’m a year older and was always too cool for Drew. Until 2008 and I saw all of his muscles.

megan | hometown: Grand Haven, MI | Photographer| 5 words (as described by drew): smiley, beautiful, fun, great-mother, sweet

drew | hometown: Sistersville, WV | account manager at clinical specialties | 5 words (as described by megan): kind, patient, loyal, super-hot, thebestthingthateverhappenedtome

Leo | 8 months | 03.21.2013 | 5 words: adorable, happy, low-maintenance, loving, wild

a favorite memory/moment from leo’s life so far:

Drew – Leo said dada on command.

Megan – I was walking out of Kroger gazing at my beautiful newborn when a bee flew into his car seat.

I screamed and crushed it with my FINGERS simultaneously.

That’s when I realized I would do anything for this baby and that I did have natural maternal instincts after all.

best piece of mommy/daddy advice:

Gripe water. It’s magic baby-will-stop-crying-no-matter-what sauce. Dip the paci in it for extended periods of silence and smiles.

And you’ve officially been baptized by parenthood fire when your kid spits up…IN YOUR EAR.

Meggie D - Seriously. I have no words. The tears started welling immediately, but they got to rolling when I saw the solo pic of Leo in his gray hat on our blanket. I can’t really thank you enough for these. They are exactly what I wanted (but you and me? Anticipate each others next move…we’re mind readers.) I love, love, love them. And I love you! Thank you for being in our lives JBZ. You are truly the B-E-S-T, best, best, BEST!! xoxoxo

Faye - OH MY GOODNESS! Could little Leo get any cuter??? What a sweetie! And Megs is totally beautiful! Motherhood looks so good on you girl! Gorgeous images Jenny!!!!!!

stephanie - such an adorable session Jenny!! perfection!!

Trenda - Thank you so much, these pictures are wonderful. I am a ex-co-worker of Megan’s and just love being able to keep in touch, and these photos makes it possible, you captured them!

Nicki - What an unbelievably adorable family!! I can’t even pick a favorite, I’m OBSESSED with all of these! You did a fantastic job capturing all the love this family obviously has for each other. Awesome awesome job!!

Mary Ann - Sweet Jenny! These are the most wonderful gift Megan’s daddy and I could have asked for! Thank you so for sharing your talent with us. These pictures are so special… The blanket Leo is sitting on was made by his Great Great Grandmother Hendrick’s. We will treasure them always.

Micah - WHAT a precious little guy and adorable family! There is sooo much fun in these images! Great job!!

Mama Signa - I don’t think I have met these friends, but loved looking anyway. Great job Jenny. And I love reading your writing almost as much as looking at the photos! 🙂

ashley - These are seriously AMAZING!!! Megan…you look freaking awesome and Leo is beyond adorable!!! The hubs looks good too! 😉 Gorgeous family and gorgeous images!

Amy - What great captures! JBZ, you always do amazing work. I went back and even looked at the newborn ones to recall which babe we were looking at. Super cute! (I love those images too.) 🙂 I also love the “about them” at the bottom. Very funny!

kim - oh my goodness ~~ how beautiful!! Love them all!

Britt - What?!??! Megan, how are you so skinny after having a baby?!?? And you guys are seriously the cutest family, like, evah. All that interaction and eye contact and expressions and cuteness!! Jenny – wonderful work, and Megan, you are too cute. This session is totally making my morning!

Molly - Okay, seriously, this is like the fifth time I’ve come back to look at this post. THESE PHOTOS ARE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Megan, you could not be even the slightest bit more beautiful (inside or out), and you have made such a wonderful family. Leo is so unbelievably adorable and the obvious love for him that flows out of you and Drew is heart-stopping. My absolute favorite is the second to last one; it overwhelms me with joy for you. Jenny, you nailed this session—absolutely, 100%.

And by the way, Meg, you could chop of all that beautiful hair and your smile would still stop me in my tracks. And your cute outfits are icing on the cake. 🙂

LOVE THESE!

Melissa - OHMYGOODNESS!!! Favorite fam sesh I’ve seen in…maybe ever! Megan, I LOVE how you love your little man!! These images are SO perfect!!! SO. McKenna&Ayden | Dayton Family Photography

These two. These two kiddos are so flipping cute i can barely stand it. When Allison asked me about doing photos of her niece and nephew, i was equal parts excited and nervous. Photographing kids these ages alone, with no parents to hold them down (haha) isn’t always easy. I’ve said before and i’ll say it again, the littles always run the session, what they want is what goes. But these kids, these kids were SO good! I couldn’t believe they were only 4 and 2! well behaved, cooperative and ca-ute kiddos?! win win win! These photos were a surprise for Allison’s sister so everything was a secret. She styled them perfectly, picked out the clothes themselves and then changed them before taking them back home. Thats a good sister! I hope you guys love these images of your little munchkins!

So first, meet beautiful McKenna:

And her equally adorable little brother, Ayden:

they love each other. *melt*i’m quite hilarious while shooting, at least Ayden thinks so. lolthey really were just the sweetest babes.and just like that, an airplane or helicopter flew overhead and i lost them, haha. But i thought this was just as precious with her little arm around him.

Dayton, OH

McKenna Rae | 4 | 03.13.09 | 5 words: sassy, sweet, caring, very silly, helpful

Ayden Michael |2 |11.08.11 | 5 words: determined, all BOY, silly, fun loving, adorable

a favorite memory/moment from the kids’ lives so far (as told by Auntie Allison):

What I love about Kenna is she is the most caring little girl that I have ever met. The best memory I have to prove that is, when Jimmy and I took her to Kings Island while riding the bumper cars every car that she bumped into

she immediately apologized to the little kid.I also love that ever since she was little she has called me Aunt Son and still to this day she continues to call me that.

What I love about Ayden is how whenever you walk into a room he just lights up with excitement and runs to greet you.

Being only 2, he still knows just what to do to pick you up when you are feeling down. But don’t let all the mushy stuff fool you, because he is definitely all BOY.

He loves his trucks and cars and will even put up his dukes when asked “put em up!”

Chrissy - Oh.my.gosh. That bow tie!!! Those two are so precious!!! McKenna looks like a great big sister! That second image of the two of them together is my absolute favorite! Great images, Jenny!

Corrie - AYKM! theses are soooo cute. the sitting down shot on the bench. yes, i will take that in a 40×60 canvas for my wall 🙂

suzanne - oh my goodness your light is perfection! and i want that little mini-bench. talk about the cutest siblings ever- the bow tie and baby blond hair. too cute! you did a beautiful job jenny!
