Kelsey Luca | Columbus, Ohio Newborn Photography

Its no surprise that i’m kind of obsessed with newborn photography. i’m always way beyond excited when i get the text saying a new baby has arrived. It was no different when i got the message that aaron and kristin had welcomed their newest addition, baby kelsey. She arrived just a month shy of being exactly 2 years behind big sister, Claire. She weighed in at just a few ounces smaller than her sister but when i was photographing (snuggling) her she seemed smaller. Maybe it was because claire is almost 2 now and the size difference is pretty significant. lol But theres no doubt in my mind that baby k is gonna be a redhead just like big sister. and she was so good for me! so sleepy and cuddly, i even got a couple teeny smiles out of her! 😉  with that being said, check out these beautiful images of sweet newborn baby kelsey.

Baby Andrew is One! | Dayton Baby Photography

this baby boy and his mama and daddy are no strangers to this blog! you can see andrew from the beginning here, here, and here.  and now he’s ONE! This year has flown by and its been so fun to see this baby turn into a little person! and look how stylish he is! check out those shoes! he wasn’t too sure about smiling at the big black box i held in from of my face, but he definitely hammed it up from time to time. He also loved JJ’s Buckeye hat, so we distracted him with that a few times. lol i love love how he’s looking up at daddy here. so sweet. this face. this is my favorite face that AC makes. i just can’t get enough! once babies are mobile, this is the story of my life… they’re on the move constantly, never wanting to sit still.and i just love this. this is how most baby photo session end. they run the show and let me know when they’ve had enough. i still think its adorable. real life. lol

you guys, i love love love you. you know that. xxJBZ

Andrew Chad | Dayton, OH

Andrew | 1 year | 03.29.13 | favorite things: his green monkey | 5 words: happy, easy-going, curious, loving, really-stinkin’-cute

best andrew moment so far:

As much as I would like to say  “all of them” there are few things that I hope I can always remember no matter how old I get.
Most recently Andrew has learned how to sing “Barbara Ann” by The Beach Boys, he chimes in on the “ba ba bas” it’s pretty stinking cute.
Andrew also “sings” in church and enjoys waving his arms like the song leader on Sundays.  That’s two things I guess, so sue me!

advice for new parents on surviving the first year:

Don’t take yourself too seriously. If you can’t laugh about the poop in the bathtub or the fact that you’ve changed someone’s outfit three times before 10am, it’s going to be a loooong ride!

favorite foods right now:

Besides his disliking for bananas, he really likes everything we give him. Most recently he was very, very excited to have Mac and cheese for the first time. A boy after his Momma’s own heart!

least favorite foods right now:

Bananas, a taste neither of his parents appreciate either. It’s unfortunate, because bananas are like the easiest “go to” kid food!

one baby item you couldnt live without:

I tried really hard not to be “that mom” who had every single baby gadget. The first six months

I couldn’t live without receiving blankets and his fisher price rock and play sleeper. The last six months, Andrew has been very attached

to a certain green monkey (from pier 1) we even had to buy extra so that we always have a clean one in the rotation.

biggest first year struggle:

The biggest struggle for us was around the Holidays when Andrew developed a “super virus” break out on his  face.

After almost two weeks of seeing our pediatrician and being sent in and out of emergency rooms, Andrew was finally admitted to Dayton Children’s for a few days.

He was a trooper the whole time. It was very frustrating not having any answers for a while.

We still struggle with Andrew’s skin sensitivities, but we take the good with the bad and we are very thankful for our happy healthy babe.

proudest first year moment/accomplishment/etc:
I’m really proud that Brycen and I have created a stress-free and happy home environment.
I’d like to say that our  positive attitudes contribute to our super happy and incredibly easy-going baby.
Andrew has had  excellent sleep habits since he was 3 weeks old and he is more than content to sit and play or snuggle with just about anyone.
He’s been a really, really easy baby, like we tell all our friends, I’m sure we’ll get our pay back with the next one!

maike rinaye - Oh my gosh. He is SUCH a charmer! Love the one looking up at dad. Adorable.

Kate Borgelt - That first photo… oh my! The pic showed up and a big smiles crossed my face. What a sweetie! and that one of his crawling right out of the photo… my favorite! Such a great time in their lives! Awesome!

Destinee - What a cute little man! I love the image that he’s looking up at Daddy too! And the spread eagle image after that is perfect! What a sweet family! You captured some awesome images!

Mandy - These are so adorable! Andrew is such a cutie pie! You guys all look amazzzzzing! Great job jenny, as always!!! And happy birthday to Andrew!! Congrats on a great first year brycen and claire!!!! Xoxo

#ZinksgotoNOLA2014; Our Trip to the Big Easy | New Orleans

As some of you know, my hubs and i went down to New Orleans earlier this month with some of our friends from Texas. I have only been to NOLA one other time and it was almost 15 years ago. Totally different experience when you’re a grown up. Haha We had so much fun and packed a lot of walking into our two full days. But mostly it was just so good to hang out w Stephany and Chad and JJ in such a fun place. We ate and drank ourselves silly. We lost a lot of money at the casino (well, JJ and i did, i think steph and chad ended up winning). and i took a lot (A LOT) of photos, as per yuje. So, here’s a glimpse into our trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. These photos were taken with a variety of cameras.. my good professional camera, our iPhones, and my little point and shoot that fits right in my pocket. So the quality of some of them leaves a lot to be desired but i’m not trying to win any awards with these, just wanted to document our trip with friends who live half a country away. Steph and Chad, i can’t wait til our next adventure! Love you guys!! xxJBZ

Self Portrait Project: January

I’ve been wanting to do a self portrait project for a couple of years now.. ever since i started following the beautiful Gail Werner and fell in love with her self project series. I always put it off, i felt so funny doing it even tho i’m one of the few photographers that loves to be in front of the camera as well as behind it. But this january (as most januarys go) is full of new resolutions and goals.. i don’t usually do well with resolutions, but part of that might be because i don’t write them down, or let people know about them. This year i’m putting some of my major goals out there for everyone to see, and hopefully hold me accountable. We can all use a little help sometime, am i right?

So, here are some of my goals for 2014:

1.finally start self portrait project and post an image monthly

2. train and run at least one half marathon, preferably 2. i’m not the worlds best runner by any stretch. i haven’t found that love for it yet that so many others have. but i ran my first half marathon last year and the feeling that came along with it was absolutely amazing. i can’t wait to feel that sense of accomplishment again. i’ve already signed up for the Cap City Half Marathon in may, so heres hoping i can at least beat my time from last year.

3. do not get caught up/worked up/etc about things that don’t concern or affect me.

4. get in better shape. most of 2013 i put fitness on a back shelf. our wedding was over, our honeymoon was over, both sisters weddings were over. besides the half marathon, and some other little races scattered thru out the year, i didn’t make running a huge priority. we’d do really good about getting to the gym for a few weeks then stop going, go a few weeks, then stop again. and on and on like that. i put on a lot (a lot) of weight and i feel pretty miserable about it. i’m not putting this out there as a poor poor me or for people to feed me compliments. this is an admission, a confession if you will. I know i can be better, do better and i want to. With all this extra weight on me, its harder to want to exercise because i get more tired easily and i feel more sluggish. this year that is going to change. i’ve taken some before photos but you can bet your ass i won’t be posting those before i have  a kick ass after photo to go along with it. maybe that will be a self portrait later this year. Plus if i ever wanna have a kid in a few years, i need to get into shape now, because it’ll be a helluva lot harder with another human to take care of.

5. daily yoga practice. i started doing yoga almost daily last May. there were a few times i took some time off, i had some back issues in october and got sidetracked in december when the baby got here. I’m making sure this year to carve some time out of every day to get on my mat. as a lot of you know (if you follow me on instagram) i partake in a lot of yoga challenges. I do this because they’re fun, and they take me out of my comfort zone a lot of the time pushing me to try new poses that wouldn’t normally be part of my practice. I’ve made a lot of progress in a lot of areas and i’m excited to see where this year brings me. this photo shows me doing something that until the last day of november 2013 i couldn’t do.. when i was able to grab those toes (without that strap), that was a happy happy day. i work on this pose every single day, so it can only get better from here. my next goal with this is to touch those toes to my head.. i’m so close, maybe i’ll get there in february.

"jenny barnes"
