andrew chad makes his debut | columbus birth photography

*warning-this post contains a LOT of images. many more than i usually post. but its extra special.  its also birth photography but dont worry, there’s nothing graphic*

its very hard for me to find the words for this post. Birth photography is special enough, but when its the birth of the baby of two of your close friends, the words here will fall quite short.  March 29th was one of the most emotional days of my life. i cant even imagine what it would be like to actually be the one giving birth. i was SO honored when Claire and Brycen asked me to be there to photograph the birth of their baby. How special is that. My girlfriend Lauren said yesterday, “that totally bonds you guys for life”. how true. i knew if would be emotional (i’m an emotional wreck lately with all these babies being born) and even claire told me to “dry it up, sister”. haha

Claire was scheduled to have her c section on April 12th. But from early on in her pregnancy she knew she was going to come early. 3 weeks before her scheduled due date, on a friday night, i got a text saying, ‘having contractions, going to hospital’. i started freaking out. not for what you may think, i’m afraid. i was in town (yay) but i was also at my brothers girlfriends 21st birthday get together with none of my gear (boo). i had a little panic attack to my mom who confidently assured me, ‘oh its braxton hicks, dont worry’. haha, moms. but, clearly, she was right (of course she was, she had 5 kids!). So the weekend went by and Claire and Brycen were able to go home with clear instructions for claire to take it easy. that next wednesday i was in town again for a session and had dinner with c & b. i ooh’d and aah’d over her belly some more like i always do. made brycen take an iphone pic of us as it might be ‘our last pic together before slater* gets here’.  as we parted, they were all, ok, see you in a week or so.. the next day, thursday, i was out running. a mile and a half or so from my car i get a text, ‘so, whatcha doing?’ another freakout on my part.. omg is it baby time? i’m so far from my car and tired i wont even be able to run that fast back to it. can i make it to my car, home to get my gear and then to dayton in time? luckily it wasnt a rush rush rush scenario like i thought it would be. Finally i got news at about 930 that night, baby’s coming in the morning. i did a little happy dance that he’ll finally be here and that i wasnt going to miss it. i woke up so early friday morning, i was like a kid at christmas, and headed down to dayton to be with my friends on one of the most special days of their lives. The images that follow tell the story of their day.

little andrew chad was born at 8am on the dot. and weighing in at 8 lbs, 1.5 oz and 20 inches longthis little guy screamed and cried for at least the first 45 minutes of his life. he was working those lungs, boy. daddy cut the cord…and finally mama gets to see her baby up close and personal.well hello there sweet thing!teeny tiny baby parts make me melt.claire bear, you did so great. so proud of you.i tried to wait patiently for my turn to snuggle him. he’s perfect.so crazy to see her as a mom.. after they had a few minutes alone in the new room with their new babe.. it was time for the families to meet Andrew. claires parents are first time grandparents and claires grandparents are first time great grandparents. they were so excited. this is brycen’s parents second grandson. an emotional day for everyone!i like that sweet newborn smell too gpa staten!and then it was time for some skin on skin with mommy.. and time for me to leave. i couldve stayed there all day taking photos of this little miracle and his new family. i’m heading down to see them today and shoot andrews first photography session. i cant believe  he’s a week old already. but it also feels like forever since i’ve seen them.

congrats again claire and brycen.. and the whole staten and cross families. if i love AC this much, i can only imagine how full your hearts are for this little guy. he’s pretty amazing. but with c & b as his parents, was there really ever any doubt?

*slater is just a nick name. when c & b told me what they were going to name him, i was like, aww AC.. then i was like AC Slater! Oh i’m totally calling him Slater.

if you get the reference, high fives. =)

ps. birth photography is one of my new favorite things to do. this was my first, but hopefully it wont be my last. so special and amazing.

lauren & jason have TWINS on the way! | dayton maternity photography

i absolutely adore this couple. So much. When i worked for Dave at Lesko Photography, we photographed Lauren and Jason’s wedding. Which was stunning! I fell in love with lauren the minute i met her, and since their wedding, we’ve kept in touch via social media. I was THRILLED for them when they announced they were expecting and even more excited when i found out they’re expecting TWINS! (I have a slight obsession with twins, or any multiples in fact, i just think they’re the coolest thing ever)  I did a little happy dance when lauren contacted me for their maternity photography session. I just couldnt wait to work with this amazing couple again.

Lauren, you are stunning. Even more so than on your wedding day and i didnt think that was possible!

i love how you love each other.i love bright nurseries with their pastel-y baby colors. and theirs was no different.

in any of my sessions i strive to get people in their most natural state.. so when i asked how they usually hang out at night on the couch, lauren told me she usually sits and jason rubs her feet.. so why not capture something that they always do? i think its so sweet.there are two babies in that belly! you’re beautiful and glowing.. (also i’m obsessed with how their house is decorated.. i’m so jealous because ours is a decorating disaster. someday when it looks good i’ll post before and after shots.)i’ve said before how much i love maternity photography because the love is just different from an engaged couples love.. so magical.

you guys, i cannot WAIT to meet and photograph baby A and baby B. these babies will be so adorable and with you as their parents, SO LOVED! I cant wait to meet them!

Introducing baby Leo Wylie | columbus newborn photography

Newborn photography is one of my favorite things to do. Babies are such miracles and so fun to snuggle. So as promised, here is newborn baby Leo’s first portrait session. Leo was born in the early morning hours of March 21st, a full 9 days before his due date (read Leo’s mommy’s full recount of the birth story here). When i photographed this newborn session he was just 5 days new. And he is TINY! Just 6 lbs and 15 ounces when he was born, he looked so small when mommy and daddy were holding him.  And boy was it fun getting to snuggle this teeny little baby. I am definitely starting to feel a little baby fever with all these newborns around me! Baby Leo was sweet as sugar, even if he didnt really want to sleep for me. He was up, bright eyed and ready to see what i had in store for him. I typically like working with sound asleep newborns, but i’m definitely not going to complain when they show me their pretty eyes.

I had to post this one because it showed off the nursery so well. I am obsessed with baby’s room. the colors and patterns that Meg picked out.. perfection.

teeny tiny newborns in daddy’s arms? MELT.In Megan’s blog telling about the birth story, she talks about how she and drew can just stare at baby Leo… and its so true, they couldnt take their eyes off of him. its hard to do. he’s pretty amazing.

he really is just the teeniest little newborn peanut.megs, you’re beautiful. absolutely.the amount of love in this photo kinda floors me. meg and drew, its so fun to see you as new parents. thank you for allowing me to capture a little piece of your journey.

Claire & Brycen & baby to be | Columbus Maternity Photography

Claire and Brycen are first timers on this blog but this definitely wont be their only time. Claire is due on April 12th and there are so many people (me included) that cant wait to meet baby Andrew (his initials are going to be A.C. so my husband and I are looking forward to calling him Slater). Claire and Brycen are two of THE SWEETEST people I know.. I couldnt wait to photograph them during this very special time in their lives. Maternity sessions are among my favorite to photograph because parents to be have such a different love than an engaged couple. Claire has that pregnancy glow and i just know that the two of them are going to be great parents. I cant wait to be an honorary auntie. I already love this little guy so much and he isnt even here yet. Check back next month for little Slaters newborn pics.. i cant wait to photograph those either!

couldn’t let them leave without getting one with my claire bear!

check back soon! Megan and Drew (from my previous post) had their baby today!! I cant wait to meet and photograph little Leo Wylie. He’s bound to be a cutie so you wont wanna miss that post!

Meg & Drew & BBD on the way | Columbus Maternity Photography

So, as promised, here is a super adorbs maternity sesh of Meg and her hubby Drew. These two.. There are hardly words. The way they love each other is almost overwhelming. They have cute little pet names and arent afraid to use them in front of other people. And just the way they look at each other makes me melt. BBD (baby boy Danser for those of you who may not know) is going to be so super loved. At one point during the session, Drew looked down at Meg (because she uber short, lol) and said “we’re having a baby”.. it was the sweetest thing ever.. melt my heart into a billion pieces. These two were so fun to photograph..and how cute are Megan’s outfits?! I love shopping with her because she helps me with my lack of fashion. Enjoy the cuteness and feel free to leave them some love in the comments!
